ORGANIZATION BACKGROUND
Virginia Literacy Foundation, Excellence in Children's Early Language and Literacy (ExCELL)
ExCELL brings together families, communities, and early childhood educators to ensure that children receive enriched and coordinated learning opportunities to support the development of the early language and literacy skills that are predictive of reading success.

VLF/ExCELL has partnered with RPS since 2008 primarily working with RPS preschool - Head Start and VPI classrooms to support early language and literacy instruction (PD and coaching) and engage families. Since 2010, ExCELL has worked with Ginter Park/Mary Scott Annex, George Mason, Oak Grove, Westover Hills, Reid, Carver, and this year adding Cardinal Elementary School providing literacy supports (PD and coaching) for kindergarten and recently, first grade teachers. Family engagement is a strong component at each grade level. Since 2010, ExCELL has partnered with RPS to provide the Ocean Adventures transition to kindergarten program.
STRATEGIC PLAN ALIGNMENT
Our 2018-2023 Strategic Plan, Dreams4RPS, is our guiding map and north star to achieve the goals laid out by our RPS community in over 170 community meetings in 2018. As a result, we are intentional about prioritizing partnerships that directly contribute to our Top 10 Goals over the next 5 years and our 5 Priority Areas. The next two sections provide an overview of the Strategic Plan and the specific Action Items which community partners can work with us to achieve. ExCELL would like to offer professional development and coaching supports for evidenced-based language and literacy instruction for preschool, kindergarten, and first grade educators. ExCELL would also like to offer family engagement supports focused on children's early learning and development to promote improved literacy outcomes by third grade. Finally, ExCELL would like to offer a summer transition to kindergarten program, Ocean Adventures, to better prepare and bridge children and families from preschool to elementary school.

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

  • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
  • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.
