Girls For A Change
Girls For A Change (GFAC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit youth development organization aimed at empowering Black girls and other girls of color in Central Virginia to visualize their bright futures and potential through discovery, development, innovation, and social change in their communities.

RPS, announced in September 2019/20 school year by Superintendent Jason Kamras, aims to empower and inspire middle school students by helping them develop leadership skills, learn about social justice, and tap into their passion.

Each middle and high school will develop a Girls Action Team comprised of 12 to 15 girls. In monthly sessions, they will be led by mentors or coaches who will work with them throughout the school year. Each team will develop and carry out social change projects that they feel are important.


Our Immersion Lab is a membership program where we offer an opportunity for girls of color and girls living in marginalized communities, classes, and social activities that celebrate our girls and give them skills, tools.  resources and certifications that will follow them after they graduate! We partner with talented and knowledgeable companies and individuals who are experts in their fields and have backgrounds in fields such as fashion, film, journalism technology, and college preparation.

Girl Action Team / Immersion Lab
Girls For A Change's Girl Action Teams are the foundation of intentional efforts to support our middle and high school girls by providing them with experiences and exposure, introduction to soft skills, approaches to achieve and sustain social-emotional wellness, and an introduction to the social change process. Girls who participate in Girl Action Teams learn skills including teamwork, time management, identifying community challenges, revealing root causes, and applying that knowledge to develop projects that make a change along with stakeholders, advocates, and community leaders. 


Girls For A Change has a solid approach to reach the goal of preparing talented and qualified young women of color for the future of work, to close the digital divide, achieve crossover/hybrid job skills training, more visible employment opportunities, gain economic self-sufficiency, and contribute to Richmond’s growth and prosperity. The Immersion Lab uses best practices for working with all girls of color by focusing on a “customized approach” that uses boosting confidence, relationship building, a focus on sisterhood, mentoring and extensive exploration of the “whole girl” vs. a mass production process.

Partnership Process - Partner Inquiry Vetting

A key part of the community partnership process is to efficiently and effectively screen incoming partnership inquiries to ensure that strong potential partnerships are explored in a timely manner, and those that we are unable to engage in receive information as to why the decision is made. Pursuant to this, we have laid out the below process for vetting partnership inquiries.

To objectively evaluate the merit of each partnership inquiry we receive, please consider the following framework for evaluation, the purpose of which is to gauge whether the partnership is a mutual fit. We will evaluate partners along two dimensions: lift and impact. Lift refers to the amount of internal effort the partnership will take to launch and support. Impact refers to the potential this partnership has to make a difference in the daily experiences of our staff, families, and students.

Our goal is to engage in partnerships that maximize the impact on our schools, while minimizing the amount of time and resources required to make the partnership effective. As a result, we will evaluate partnerships as summarized below.

Step 2: RPS Lead Evaluation

To determine where in the Lift vs. Impact Matrix each prospective community partner falls, we will use a common rubric for all partnership screenings that evaluate along both criteria. Our scores will be inputted into a tracker, which will total the partner s score along all aspects of the rubric and determine the overall evaluation of the potential partnerships. Green partnerships will automatically enter into next steps, yellow partners will be considered for further discussion, and red partners will be tactfully declined.

When considering your evaluation of the lift of a given partner, consider these guiding questions:
- Does the partner appear to have sufficient capacity to meet the goals it identifies?
- If there is a request for financial support, is it the best use of available resources?
- Do we (RPS) have the necessary capacity to fully engage in this partnership at this time?

When considering your evaluation of the impact of a given partner, consider these guiding questions:
- Is there clear alignment between the partner s proposal and the RPS Strategic Plan or related priorities?
- Do we have existing partners providing similar services at as high or higher quality and at sufficient scale?

When you bring additional fields into a conversion, Quickbase often finds inconsistencies. For example, say you're converting your Companies column into its own table. One company, Acme Corporation, has offices in New York, Dallas and Portland. So, when you add the City column to the conversion, Quickbase finds three different locations for Acme. A single value in the column you're converting can only match one value in any additional field. Quickbase needs you to clean up the extra cities before it can create your new table. To do so, you have one of two choices:

  • If you want to create three separate Acme records (Acme-New York, Acme-Dallas and Acme-Portland) click the Conform link at the top of the column.
  • If the dissimilar entries are mistakes (say Acme only has one office in New York and the other locations are data-entry errors) go back into your table and correct the inconsistencies—in this case, changing all locations to New York. Then try the conversion again.
